Most of them were built in a house with an upstairs, and the upstairs is rarely for selling. It becomes a quiet corner with the pink armchair, a little round table and a cup of tea, or a potting bench under the window. Downstairs, the green counter with its glass case stays near the front, and the walls fill with dried bunches, seed packets and ribbon. The staff is busy everywhere, carrying a crate or kneeling over a seed tray.
Look for the cat before you start. It is usually asleep in a basket somewhere the florist would rather it wasn't.
