The world is set at two in the morning, and almost all of these were built in daylight. They are busy anyway: the waitress on roller skates is in nearly every one, the bearded trucker in his cap keeps coming back, and the booths line the back wall with somebody in each seat. The bolder ones let the diner spill past its walls, a table, a cat or a chrome statue out on the sidewalk tiles.
For the hour on the sign, tap the moon in yours and let the jukebox take over.
